Vermiculite

Vermiculite is a substrate primarily used for growing Pinguicula, sometimes on its own but more often mixed with other substrates. The thermal process it undergoes results in a lightweight, expanded material free of pollutants, including heavy metals. This special treatment gives the product a porosity of about 95 percent by volume, a water retention capacity of 54 percent, and a thermal conductivity coefficient (k) of 0.049 cal/h m °C. With these properties, it helps reduce water evaporation, delay substrate drying, act as a thermal insulator, and decrease the frequency of wetting
