Pine bark 10/20 mm in substrates is very useful for aerating the mixture. Its relatively large size, which is significantly greater than that of other components commonly used for growing carnivorous plants, allows air pockets to form within the substrate. These pockets are essential for maintaining root quality in plants that do not tolerate or prefer to avoid excessive water stagnation.
Here are some examples of use:
-33% Peat / 33% Perlite / 33% Bark for growing Nepenthes
-25% Peat / 25% Perlite / 25% Bark / 25% Dried dehydrated Sphagnum moss for growing Nepenthes (possibly adding a handful of live sphagnum moss around the growing point)
-Percentage of not more than 25% if used to aerate other plants that do not like stagnant water such as Brocchinia and Catopsis
