Coconut fiber is an alternative substrate to peat and lacks nutritional values.
It is a substrate that is obtained from coconut shells; it consists mainly of lignin and is composted outdoors for 2-3 years. After the maturation stage, this material of organic origin is dehydrated and composted. It is totally sanitized, i.e., free of seeds of phytopathogens (mycetes, viruses and bacteria) and phytogens (nematodes and insects).
It is also sometimes used in mixtures with other substrates:
-35% peat, 35% perlite, 15% coconut fiber, 15% bark for growing Nepenthes
-50% coconut fiber and 50% perlite for Sarracenia and Dionaea muscipula
