Aldrovanda vesiculosa is an aquatic plant belonging to the family Droseraceae, widespread in Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. It is the only living species of the genus Aldrovanda, and is a very rare and unfortunately endangered carnivorous plant. It floats in usually very calm waters, has no roots and grows in filaments that can reach 25 cm in length. From the apex, growth occurs, while from the opposite side, the plant gradually dies. The capture mechanism is similar to that of Dionaea muscipula but 10 times faster, it is capable of capturing aquatic insects with rapid mouth movements due to tigmotropism. Aldrovanda vesiculosa, which lives in temperate zones, requires a winter rest, a period during which, it closes in small hibernacula, from which new plants emerge with the arrival of spring, which coincides with their vegetative period. The product contains 3-4 plants in the vegetative stage.

Care instructions
How we grow Aldrovanda vesiculosa?
In-vitro plants are acclimated in a Grow Chamber with controlled temperatures and humidity. This indoor setup ensure an easy adaptation to extra-vitro condition, guaranteeing the best conditions for plants in this delicate stage. As with the most of carnivorous plant we use distilled water (produced by a reverse osmosis system.) or rain water. All plants available at the Diflora shop have been acclimatised for at least 3 months.
Lighting:
Bright light all year round! It is possible to shade slightly in the warmer summer months to avoid excessive temperatures that may stunt the plant’s growth.
Substrate/Watering:
To grow this fascinating plant, a small pond with demineralized acidic water (between 5.5 Ph and 6.5) is recommended. It is important to use only demineralized water or alternatively all waters that have an extremely low mineral salt content. For example all condensation water (air conditioner, dehumidifier) or rainwater. The conductivity of the water must have a value of less than 50 micro-siemens.
Seasonality and temperature:
Temperatures can be between 5° and 15° during the winter rest when the plant will greatly reduce in size and 18° to 25° during the rest of the year.

Source
Diflora started the in-vitro propagation of this Aldrovanda from plant parts that comes from very experienced european growers. Micropropagation allows the preservation of the mother plant genome avoiding contamination and genetic variation caused by traditional pollination followed by seeds production.
